Weathering the summer heat might be easy for those who can escape indoors, but many cars are left out in the sweltering heat. Properly preparing your vehicle for summer is crucial in order to optimize performance at blazing hot temperatures. We here at Dave Kirk Automotive know of a few ways to get your car ready for summer so you can relax under the summer sun.
Change and Check the Tires
If you put winter tires on for the colder weather, it’s time to take them off. Winter tires will wear faster on dry, hot pavement. Replace them with all-season or summer tires instead.
Ensuring your tires are properly inflated will result in more responsive handling and higher fuel economy. The summer heat tends to make air pressure rise. Make sure to let out some air if necessary!
Inspect the Battery
The summer heat isn’t good for your car’s battery. It’s a good idea to replace the battery altogether if it’s more than a few years old. Either way, you should perform an inspection with an eye for bulges or cuts. It wouldn’t hurt to clean any corrosion off the posts too!
Give Your Car a Wash
Dirt, grime, and salt can build up over time, especially if winter was particularly harsh. Prepare your car for summer by giving it a thorough wash. Make sure to hit all the nooks and crannies! Apply a coat of wax afterwards for a shine that will last all summer long.
